Mark at the Farmer's Market

mini mugs and paintings for spring shows

I've been at the market for 18 years.  It didn't register as a long time until it hit seventeen years.  It can still be hard to wake up on saturday morning (and go to sleep on friday night).  My production schedule is tighter now than ever since we take more and longer vacations and I've started accepting wholesale business.  This painting is of my friend Mark, who is Cherokee and who also vends at the market.  I painted his son earlier this spring or maybe last winter.  The young warrior image sprang to life.  This painting is based off a photo from the winter market.  I like the hat and coat and vest because they speak of a well worn and comfortable heritage.  I've started coming back to people as the subject of my two dimensional paintings for the first time in twenty years.
